How fast do you type?
Check accuracy, too.
Take a typing test and see your words per minute, accuracy and speed through the test. Start with one minute, or choose a shorter or longer test.
A physical keyboard and JavaScript are needed to take the test. Guides are readable on any device.
How to take the test
- Choose the layout printed on your keyboard and open the test.
- Pick 15, 30, 60 or 120 seconds, or a fixed word count. Natural text is the default; symbols and code are also available.
- The clock starts with your first character. Type the displayed text; use Esc to pause or Tab to restart.
- When the test ends, review net speed, gross speed, first-attempt accuracy and the speed chart.
What do WPM and accuracy mean?
One standard word is five characters. Gross WPM counts inserted characters; net WPM counts correct entries. Accuracy is the percentage of character attempts that were correct on the first try. Fixing a mistake does not erase that first attempt.
For 100 inserted characters and 93 correct entries in 30 seconds, gross speed is 40 WPM and net speed is 37.2 WPM. Read the accuracy guide for ways to interpret the numbers and choose what to practice.
What is a good typing speed?
A useful target depends on your task. Compare your own results under the same duration, layout, language and text style. Look for accurate, repeatable performance rather than chasing someone else's score on different text.
Where do the results go?
This quick test runs in memory. Its typing records and scores disappear when you reload or leave the page. It does not open or change your saved practice profile. The website's separate aggregate traffic analytics has an opt-out.
